Once a curious child organizing neighborhood street theatre, sewing garments out of scraps, and publishing a weekly cul-de-sac newspaper, adult Caroline can happily proclaim that not much has changed. Now based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, Caroline Godwin Couch is a multidisciplinary researcher, producer, and artist working in projects across education, arts, and culture.
Caroline graduated cum laude from Radboud University's Arts and Culture MA, focusing in the Creative Industries. As a Fulbright Scholarship student, her thesis explored how the mobilization of artistic infrastructures against climate change. Caroline now spends her time freelancing and as the Project Officer for Diversity and Inclusion for the ArtEZ University of the Art's Conservatorium in Arnhem.
As an arts administrator: she co-founded and managed Village Verein, an independent orchestra in lower Manhattan. As the group's Executive Director, she transformed the group from student project to regularly producing ensemble, presenting unique theatrical and concert programming.
As an artist, Caroline primarily writes, works with fiber, and plays music. Working with David Huang Mailman, the two form a composer/librettist duo. Their collaborative work has premiered at festivals and universities across the United States.
As a Wagnerian: she has attended the Bayreuther Festspiele as a stipendiatin as part of the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation. She sits on the Wagner Society of New York's Board of Directors.
Als nieuwsgierig kind organiseerde ze straattheater in de buurt, naaide ze kleding van restjes stof en gaf ze een wekelijkse buurtkrant uit. Nu ze volwassen is, kan Caroline met plezier zeggen dat er niet veel veranderd is. Caroline Godwin Couch woont momenteel in Nijmegen en is een multidisciplinair onderzoeker, producent en kunstenaar die werkt aan projecten op het gebied van onderwijs, kunst en cultuur.
Caroline is cum laude afgestudeerd aan de masteropleiding Kunst en Cultuur van de Radboud Universiteit, met een specialisatie in de creatieve industrieën. Als Fulbright-beursstudente onderzocht ze in haar scriptie hoe artistieke infrastructuren kunnen worden ingezet in de strijd tegen klimaatverandering. Caroline is momenteel werkzaam als freelancer en als projectmedewerker Diversiteit en Inclusie bij het Conservatorium van de ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem.
Als producent en cultuurmanager was ze medeoprichtster en manager van Village Verein, een onafhankelijk orkest in Lower Manhattan. Als uitvoerend directeur zorgde ze ervoor dat de groep uitgroeide van een studentenproject tot een ensemble dat regelmatig optredens verzorgde, met een uniek programma van theater- en concertvoorstellingen.
Als kunstenaar houdt Caroline zich voornamelijk bezig met schrijven, textielkunst en muziek. Samen met David Huang Mailman vormt ze een duo van componist en librettist. Hun gezamenlijke werk is in première gegaan op festivals en universiteiten in de hele Verenigde Staten.
Als Wagner-liefhebber heeft ze als beursstudente van de Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation de Bayreuther Festspiele bijgewoond. Ze is lid van het bestuur van de Wagner Society of New York.
